New Data on Projected Sea Level Increase

As reported in the Economist, new data shows that Earth’s sea levels are rising twice as fast as had been previously estimated.  Scientists now estimate that, by 2100, sea levels may rise between about 50cm and 100cm.   fish0435

The reason behind the new estimate, it appears, are measurements indicating that increased temperatures at the Earth’s poles are causing glaciers not only to melt, but also to break up.

If there’s any silver lining to this dark cloud, it may be the urgency that this finding could impart on proceedings at the upcoming climate negotiations in Bonn, Germany.
