Reforest The Tropics, Inc. is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has developed an innovative model to sequester carbon for the long-term by converting cattle pasture to biologically and economically sustainable new farm forests. The program is formally approved by the US and Costa Rican governments and is based on over 50 years of research in tropical forestry. The concept for RTT was approved in 1995 by the United Nations FCCC-AIJ.
How to participate…
Step 1: With the guidance of RTT, calculate the annual emissions of your business.

The model is a scientific approach to optimize the sequestration of carbon in a new forest, while ensuring sustainability by allowing landowners to profit from prescribed forest thinnings. The program is inexpensive. Many large corporations are already including carbon costs (between $30-60 per metric ton) in their financial projections. The RTT model sequesters a metric ton of carbon for only $15. The approach is necessary. Numerous scientific studies demonstrate that reducing our emissions is not enough. We must actually extract carbon from the atmosphere. New forests are the safest and most cost effective manner for pulling excess CO2 from the atmosphere.
